Here is my testimony!
My name is Babal Gadar and I am from Gujarat, India. My family was Hindu until I was 5 years of age. Missionaries from South India came to our area and converted few people to Christianity; one of them was my grandfather who became Christian because he was healed by their prayers from his long ailment that lasted 17 years. He then shared gospel with myparents who accepted Christ as their personal Savior.
These missionaries opened one hostel in a nearby town for converted Christians from our region. They persuaded myfather to send me to their hostel. That is where I studied for next 14 years and became the first one to go to school from myentire household! In the last year of my stay in hostel when I was 19 years of age I accepted Christ as my personal Saviour and decided to dedicate my life for ministry. Hostel where I studied was Bethel and we were told that we are sponsored by Red een Kind organisation from Netherlands.
Thereafter, I joined one Christian organization named Operation Mobilisation where I worked for seven years. We used to do door to door outreach and share about Jesus. Every month or two we changed our places and went on to preach Him in new towns and villages. Many times we slept on the roadsides and stayed without food. We were also persecuted and ridiculed but personally I was blessed through this ministry.
After 7 years when I went back to my village I show other kids had no opportunity to go to school and study so I started one school and one orphanage for poor and orphan kids. This was in 2008. I always wanted to provide education to underprivileged as someone sponsored me for my studies.
The name of my organization is Holistic Education Missions-HEM. The orphanage is located in in Gujarat has less than 1% Christian population. And there is no other English medium school until one hours drive away. Today in our school there are 236 poor students studying and 125 orphan children are staying in our orphanage. Many students walk up to 12km everyday to come to our school and 60% of our students are first generation school goers! Everyday we teach them from Bible and pray that they accept Christ and grow up as God fearing people. We also train rural pastors who do not have any theological training. We train them through conferences and seminars. We will be starting Bible school for 20-15 students by June 2017. Through our ministry we also support widows, and train youths in vocational trainings such as Basic English and basic computer courses.
In our region Christianity came around early 1970s and by mid 80s thousands of people became Christians. My illiterate grandfather learnt the gospel from the missionaries and shared with anyone and everyone who was willing to hear him. He alone established around 40 churches. Between 1989-1999 great persecution broke out in the region and hundred plus churches were destroyed. Our church was the first one to be destroyed and village heads vowed that they will not celebrate any festival or occasion until Christianity was completely wiped out of the village. But today we teach Bible to their kids!
We have 22 staff in our ministry. Since someone else helped my studies now I also want to help other underprivileged children. Out of 236 only 10 students are sponsored so far. If you or anyone you know are interested in sponsoring a child or two let me know. It costs 1400INR ($20USD) a month to sponsor one child. Please stand with us and pray for our work.
