We partner with our local schools (one school per year), and work to create relationships with the teachers and kiddos. We partner with Convoy of Hope and are able to give a pair of new shoes to each student at the school. We also take breakfast to the teachers a couple of times per year, help with recess duty, help read with kiddos, help with science fairs, etc.
We also partner with our local DHS/Foster Care. We provide car seats, beds, bags etc. for them when they are in need.
We also do things throughout the year for our local homeless shelter (help them to ring bells, donate food, etc.).
I think the biggest thing to focus on is the relationship. It's easy to give people something they need (and that should be done and is great), but it means so much more when you actually get to know the person/people you are helping.
Hope this helps!
