Every Wednesday night when students walk into our building, they hear music, connect with their friends and leaders, worship, listen to a message, and then meet in Switch Groups to continue to build strong Godly relationships. This is a program, and we are proud of it. We place an enormous amount of time and energy perfecting our program, making sure that it is excellent, and ensuring it leaves a lasting impression on every student who walks into our building. The problem is, many people leave everything to the program. If you are just a program, you will get beat out by any other program any day of the the week.
If a new movie comes out during your program, you will get beat. If the high school football game was during your program, you'd get beat.
You need to make it personal.
So how do we make it personal? We need to lead beyond the program.
Know who you lead
Know your students' names, where they go to school, and what activities they are involved in. People need to feel needed and known.
Steward who you lead
Keep up with your students throughout the week by texting them, liking or commenting on their posts, or sending a card. Never let a student walk out of your group without getting their info and then keeping track of it.
Be available to who you lead
When people know they can talk with you and that you are available, they feel valued.
Always lead beyond the program.
