Love this discussion! We will be shooting a video/audio podcast soon around this topic. In the mean time, if these notes are helpful feel free to take anything you need from them. These are my outline notes from a leadership talk I did for one of our teams. Not sure if they will help...but you never know. Let's go change the world today...our day is what we make it...let's make it a great one!
FORM - Leadership Talk - Charlie LaTurno
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40 NIV)
It’s hard for us to connect and love people we don’t know.
We are called to:
Discover - His people - you can’t discover someone you don’t meet.
Develop - His people - you can’t develop someone you don’t know.
Deploy - His people - “Go and make disciples…” - Matthew 28:19
Without discovery...there is no development.
Without discovery...there is no deployment.
We passionately invite. Great start.
But one little thing makes a huge difference. Follow up. The fortune is in the follow up.
So how do you practically connect people to HIS church…not your ministry…but HIS ministry for them?
Family - married? kids?
Occupation - what do they do? How long have they been there? Are they passionate about it?
Recreation - what do they like to do for fun? Hobbies, interests, etc.
Method of Follow Up - email / hand-written note / phone call / stop by their office with their favorite drink or just to say thank you in person / lots of ideas
If you are intentional about practicing this with your teammates with set aside time each week, you will get better.
We do stagetime drills? Why? To get better.
We do communication drills? Why? To get better.
The single most important thing we do every weekend is interact with HIS people. How effective we are at that every weekend either DRAWS people towards HIS church or PUSHES them away from HIS church.
No ministry will ever run short of leaders if an entire team is focused on HIS next step for HIs people…instead of OUR next step from them.
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common.
How can we have anything in common if we don’t know each other.
They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47 NIV)
And HE added to their number daily.
He added to their number daily because they had the right heart. The right heart is to:
Love HIS people...
Listen to HIS people...
Learn from HIS people...
So that we can LEAD HIS people...
We help them find HIS ministry for them and he takes care of the rest!
Right HEART + Right ACTIVITY + Right TIME = Always equals the RIGHT RESULT.
We are in charge of the first two...God is in charge of the last two!
